Information Tasks: Toward a User-Centered Approach to Information Systems by Bryce Allen,
The user-centered approach is central to the creation of usable information systems, services, automated information information library retrieval science and institutions. Information system design should derive from user research into information needs, tasks accomplished in meeting those needs, automated information information library retrieval science and resources used in the tasks. Information Tasks summarizes user research, then presents design sketches of systems that illustrate how design is linked to research. Also discussed are usable information services automated information information library retrieval science and an overview of the organization automated information information library retrieval science and economics of information institutions. This comprehensive user-centered approach provides an agenda for information research, design, automated information information library retrieval science and education that challenges many accepted beliefs automated information information library retrieval science and suggests new directions for information work. Information Tasks will be of interest to library automated information information library retrieval science and information science students automated information information library retrieval science and faculty interested in information storage automated information information library retrieval science and retrieval, user studies, automated information information library retrieval science and systems analysis design. Students automated information information library retrieval science and scholars of human factors in systems design, human-computer interaction, automated information information library retrieval science and cognitive engineering will also find the text useful.

The Intellectual Foundation of Information Organization by Elaine Svenonius,

The Intellectual Foundation of Information Organization by Elaine Svenonius,
Instant electronic access to digital information is the single most distinguishing attribute of the information age. The elaborate retrieval mechanisms that support such access are a product of technology. But technology is not enough. The effectiveness of a system for accessing information is a direct function of the intelligence put into organizing it. Just as the practical field of engineering has theoretical physics as its underlying base, the design of systems for organizing information rests on an intellectual foundation. The subject of this book is the systematized body of knowledge that constitutes this foundation.Integrating the disparate disciplines of descriptive cataloging, subject cataloging, indexing, automated information information library retrieval science and classification, the book adopts a conceptual framework that views the process of organizing information as the use of a special language of description called a bibliographic language. The book is divided into two parts. The first part is an analytic discussion of the intellectual foundation of information organization. The second part moves from generalities to particulars, presenting an overview of three bibliographic languages: work languages, document languages, automated information information library retrieval science and subject languages. It looks at these languages in terms of their vocabulary, semantics, automated information information library retrieval science and syntax. The book is written in an exceptionally clear style, at a level that makes it understandable to those outside the discipline of library automated information information library retrieval science and information science.

List of basic library and information science topics - Below is a list of basic topics in library and information science -- topics which will help the beginner become familiar with the science of libraries and information.

Information retrieval - Information retrieval (IR) is the art and science of searching for information in documents, searching for documents themselves, searching for metadata which describe documents, or searching within databases, whether relational stand alone databases or hypertext networked databases such as the Internet or intranets, for text, sound, images or data. There is a common confusion, however, between data retrieval, document retrieval, information retrieval, and text retrieval, and each of these have their own bodies of literature, theory, praxis and technologies.
